In context, he was writing to the church in Thessalonica, addressing people who had stopped working because they expected Jesus’ return soon. The prevailing theology is actually summed up by a quote from Jesus that guys like this ignore: “Whoever has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.” (Luke 3:11). In essence, he starts with his greedy political beliefs, then cherry picks verses to justify it. It was BS like his that was popular with slavers)
