Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act … which would you choose?

If I asked you to pick between Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act, then you would either scratch your head or even perhaps suggest that I should F***-off.

Why?

Well, because they are the same fracking thing, ah but you knew that … right? … you did didn’t you?

In fact you would assume everybody knows that. Oh but wait, apparently quite a few don’t. Jimmy Kimmel, a US TV host, went out with a camera to ask folks which they would choose, and … well, I’m sure you can guess what happened …

So did they simply cherry-pick a few idiots? Nope, this CNBC poll found that 46 percent of Americans oppose Obamacare, while only 37 percent oppose the Affordable Care Act.

We have been here before of course, does anybody remember how the Clinton Healthcare Plan back in 1993 was demonized and driven-down in the polls, yet when people were asked to judge an unnamed copy of the plan, they loved it?

This is no different, if you now ask people if they want what is actually in the law without using either name, then you discover that the approval percentage is high, so  almost everyone wants the content once you subtract the politics.

Sigh! … perhaps they should have simply called it the “Medical Freedom Act of the Republic” or similar.

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge’.” – Isaac Asmiov
