Mom violently attacks Pre-school teacher … why?

Roughly about one week ago, on Sep 2, 2021 Kasey Marie Brooks, age 28, walked into St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, Grovetown, GA supposedly to discuss a concern with her child’s 61 year old preschool teacher, June Barrow. Instead of sitting down, she immediately and very violently attacked the teacher.

There is a local media story along with CCTV footage of the attack …

A witness came into the classroom and tried to pull Brooks off the teacher, but was unable to hold her back, according to authorities. Brooks continued to punch the teacher until she was lying on the floor with visible marks, according to authorities.

The witnesses pulled the parent off the teacher, and the teacher went to a class bathroom and locked the door. As Brooks left the building, she said she would wait for her “mug shot.”

When officers arrived, the left side of the teacher’s face was already swollen and she had bite/teeth marks around the base of her left thumb. She was transported to Doctors Hospital for medical treatment….

What then happened?

The parent, Kasey Marie Brooks, was arrested and charged with battery. That’s her above.

Here are some more details …

A witness tried to stop the assault but could not. She yelled for help and a second witness came into the room and pulled Brooks off the victim.

“But then Kasey jumped back on her and again started hitting her with her fist as the victim was lying on the floor,” a sheriff’s report says. “Kasey also bit the victim’s left thumb/palm, leaving visible marks.”

The witnesses pulled the parent off the teacher, and the teacher retreated to a class bathroom and locked the door. Brooks left the building, saying she would “wait for her mugshot,”

How do you feel about this?

After reading the above details about the attack, what are your initial thoughts?

It sounds horrendous for the teacher. You might also wonder if the attacker was mentally unstable in some way, or on drugs.

Well … I have a reveal coming up, the details of what actually motivated the attack.

The Backstory – Mama Bear

Kasey Brooks is the mum of an adorable two year old son who was enrolled in the school.

Last Wednesday, Sep 1, 2021, as Kasey was reviewing the CCTV footage, she was horrified to see her son being physically abused by his preschool teacher.

For 3 hours I watched his teacher spank him, hit him in the head, slap him with a book, shove him to the ground, snatch him up by one arm and carry him across the room multiple times, slam him in his seat to make him eat lunch alone in time-out, pick him up by his ankles and hold him on his neck/head, grab his face so hard his cheeks were touching in his mouth as she was nose to nose with him, amongst other things.

Her initial reaction was to immediately complain to the daycare director, but …

The daycare director dismissed her employee’s actions and ensured me she would be keeping her job. She claimed to see nothing wrong with the teacher’s abusive behavior until she could no longer deny what we both had watched and asked me what I wanted to do about it

With a very serious concern validated she immediately wanted to dig into what had been going on, but she then hit a brick wall and an attempted cover up …

I was only allowed to watch the footage from ONE day and only ONE of the two cameras in the room. I had several employees try to stop me from watching it after I had seen “certain events”. Because I had already been told I could watch the entire day, I didn’t waiver with the intimidation tactic.

Now what?

She has setup a Go Fund me Page that right now has already raised over $14K

It is all on camera, both the assault and also the abuse of her child. It due course the authorities will review all the material and issue an update.

Thoughts?

Two wrongs don’t make a right, but rather obviously …

  • If the evidence is verified, then the teacher should never be let near any child ever again
  • If indeed the school did attempt a coverup and refused to take meaningful action when it was brought to their attention, then they also have a case to answer
  • If it was happening to one child, it may also have been happening to others. If I had a kid in that school, I’d be banging down the door demanding to see footage immediately.

Questions

  • Was what she did to the teacher justified?
  • If it has been your kid how would you have handled it?

  1. Assuming everything the mom said is true, she must still be and will still be convicted of assault. There is no justifiable reason for an assault to punish someone else who has committed assault, and self-defense, defense of others, and mutual affray are not applicable here. However, at sentencing, the judge should certainly consider any mitigating factors, including the fact that she was reacting to her child being physically abused. There’s no reason she should get a delayed/deferred sentencing arrangement, do 12 months of probation, and then have it wiped from her record.

Again, assuming what mom said is true, the teacher should be fired and criminally charged with whatever that state’s version of child abuse 4th degree is, lose any teaching certificates she may have, added to that state’s Central Registry of child abusers, and barred from ever working with vulnerable individuals again. In that case, the school should be sued for allowing the abuse to happen and held to account financially for any damages the child suffered. It will have a very difficult time claiming the teacher was acting outside the scope of her employment when they are the ones defending her actions.
