Higgs

Well come on, its “The” news today, so what else should I be blogging about, but then what can I actually add? Not much, except perhaos to point you at a few good links.

First we have Jon Butterworth in The Guardian. He is a physics professor at University College London and is a member of the High Energy Physics group on the Atlas experiment at Cern’s Large Hadron Collider, so is well placed to comment. He wrote it prior to the meeting today, so its good for background.

Now moving on, I found a great summary by the Astronomer Phil Plait here. He does a fantastic job of not only explaining what was announced, but also clarifies the current degree of certainty, and why things are still a bit fuzzy.

You might also like to check out Dennis Overbye’s NYT article which is here.

But wait, why just read about it, why not consider (if you are brave enough to do so) the actual results from both teams that have been posted, you can find the Atlas results here, and the CMS results here.

Perhaps you might be a tad confused and not too sure what this is all about. If so then below is Fermilab scientist Don Lincoln describing the concept of how the search for the Higgs boson is accomplished. (He posted this today)
