The pope is at it again … basically coming out with silly nonsense that some foolish folks will take seriously …
ROME – Pope Benedict XVI said on Thursday that the media’s increasing reliance on images, fuelled by the endless development of new technologies, risked confusing real life with virtual reality.
“New technologies and the progress they bring can make it impossible to distinguish truth from illusion and can lead to confusion between reality and virtual reality,” the pope said.
“The image can also become independent from reality, it can give birth to a virtual word, with various consequences — above all the risk of indifference towards real life,” he said.
He said the use of new technologies should set off “an alarm bell.”
OK, so lets see if I understand this correctly. This is a chap who truly believes the following:
- A talking snake tricked an ancestor of all of us into eating some fruit, and thats the reason for all the bad things that happen.
- There is a supernatural being who gave birth to himself so that he could kill himself to pacify his own anger against us all due to this talking snake tricking our common ancestor into eating this fruit.
- He is also the leader of a select group of individuals who believe that they are special and have the ability to recite magic words that will turn a wafer into the actual flesh of a God so that it can then be eaten
- etc…
The list above goes on and on, I think you get the idea. Now, its in this context that he is seriously concerned that technology carries the risk of us all loosing our grasp of reality!!!
Sadly in his case he appears to have lost his grip on reality a very long time ago.
What is reality anywase? Will I wake up after I die to relize iv been dreaming. Or will the clouds part and the creator greet me at the gate? I don’t know anymore, and I suppose I don’t care. Theres nothing we can do about it now; unless you just can’t wait and u want to bight the bullet to take the xpress way to Infinity.
But msg to the guy that dogged religion – Yea Catholicism is a joke! Blatantly disregard messages in the bible that are key to “doing it right” now I dont have all the answers, and I know I never will “while im breathing” but I believe everything is connected in some way shape or form. Meaning yes even your thoughts and emotions are connected. Now this “dataBase” of reality is are sandbox. Our cage our life as we know it. And if everything is connected, secured and flowing, that leads me to believe there is design. Iv never heard of art without a creator and if you look around at something natural you will see beauty, and efficiency. My guess is that “god” aka “artist” “creator” “whateverUcallit” placed us hear to be his fans.. to be appreciated for his work and dedication by somthing else that isint forced to do so “free will” is the ultimate reward for any true artist.
