Atheist Tornado Survivor asked by CNN reporter if She ‘Thanks The Lord’

You may already have seen this … but what the heck, its funny …

The sad fact is that a lot of religious people appear to think that non-believers behave like this …

… but the truth is that the non-religious are just ordinary folks, don’t have horns growing out of their heads, and are not rampaging across the countryside raping and pillaging.

For those that cannot view the clip above, it plays out as follows:

CNN reporter Wolf Blitzer is interviewing Rebecca Vitsmum, who fled her home in Moore with her 19-month old son, seconds before a tornado flattened it.

Blitzer says … “We’re happy you’re here. You guys did a great job. You’ve gotta thank the Lord, right? Do you thank the Lord for that split-second decision?”

It might be the first time Vitsmum smiled since losing her entire home. “I – I’m actually an atheist,” she said, laughing off the awkward moment.

You are. All right. But you made the right call,” Blitzer said.

Vitsmum then replied, “We are here, and I don’t blame anyone for thanking the Lord,

Her young son also seemed less than interested in religiosity, preferring to play with Blitzer’s microphone, and refused to hand it back to a rather bemused Blizer.

A long time ago our ancestors looked upon the world and when faced with the unknown they attributed what the saw to supernatural agents … the moon, the sun, and stars were deemed to be Gods, and the weather was controlled by these same gods. The presumption above is that this palaeolithic thinking still prevails … wrong, there is a rising tide of rationality.

Perhaps there is a presumption that there are no atheists in foxholes and when faced with danger people will automatically revert to “religious mode” … nope, wrong again.

foxhole

Its nice to know that we live in a world, that with each passing day is indeed seeing a rising tide of rationality.
