Its “Reason Rally” day … yea. (Twitter tag is #reasonrally)

Yep, the long-awaited “Reason Rally” day is finally here.

Can I find anything negative to say about it? Sadly yes I can, and so it is with great sadness that I have to report …. (brace yourself for the shock now) … that unfortunately I’ll not be there. Alas, I wish I was, but I’m on the wrong side of the planet. I do hope you will somehow struggle through the day without me.

If you are indeed going, then please do not tell me (least I develop an even deeper and more distinct shade of green). You will not only have some truly fabulous speakers to look forward to hearing (Richard Dawkins, James Randi, PZ Myers, Hemant Metha, Greta Christina, David Silverman, Jessica Ahlquist and many more well-known personalities), but there will also be many truly cool folks to hang out with.

Tips for the Day

  • Take advantage of the fact that there are lots of cool folks there … wander up to complete strangers, say “Hi”, introduce yourself and find out where they are from.
  • If you do this, you will meet lots of really interesting people … so mingle, give folks your contact details and network with like-minded folks
  • Don’t fret about being a tad nervous about doing this … do not pause, just do it.
Richard Dawkins will be there (yea). He was interviewed yesterday by the Washington Post about it all,  … here is that clip …

What of course is truly hilarious is that there will be protesters there as well. Are there indeed people out there who hold views that are so insanely crazy that they feel the need to go out and protest against “Reason”? Yep, for some with weird views, reason is indeed their enemy. Can you possibly guess who? … Yep, Westboro Baptist, the media hungry folks who are famous for turning up at funerals of famous folks and holding a protest. As reported here …

Some atheists, Megan Phelps-Roper notes, when thinking of the Bible and the Westboro Baptist Church who will be attending the Reason Rally, might “act like it’s a big joke,” but they should see this as a “very serious matter.” “There is a god, there will be a day of judgment, and there is nothing unreasonable about worshiping your creator,” Megan Phelps-Roper says.

Megan Phelps-Roper has a special message for Richard Dawkins. She explains,“He is a blasphemer of huge proportions. He promotes rebellion against God using the platform God gave him and will have a hot spot in Hell.”

Megan Phelps-Roper says that one or two things will happen when the Westboro Baptist Church arrives at the Reason Rally: atheists will be further condemned and their hearts will be hardened or the preaching will serve as a call to servants of God who hasn’t yet heard the call. Members of the Westboro Baptist Church, Megan Phelps-Roper says, will come with many signs including ‘God is your enemy,’ ‘mourn for your sins’ and a special sign for Richard Dawkins.

So yes, there will indeed be “entertainment” from the lunatic fringe as well. Perhaps Thunderfoot has the best resonse for them … he writes …

Thankfully, I have the most powerful weapon EVAR…. The Bible, and I’ve read it.

Luke 17:34, TWO MEN IN ONE BED!
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+17%3A34-37&version=KJV

Yeah Jesus describes how ‘the rapture’ will take place, and it happens when two men are in a bed, or when girls are grinding together. Clearly Westboro Baptist Church have a sinful and wicked interpretation of the bible that can only be cured by pray to be gay day!

So folks … have a blast, ignore the nutters (unless of course you enjoy winding them up), hang out with the truly cool folks and network like crazy, its our day, so grasp this unique opportunity with both hands.
