“Atheists are as big a threat as climate change deniers” claims a Catholic comedian

Just to prove how idiotic some can be, (or perhaps to illustrate how scrambled you thinking can become if you actually ‘believe’), we have comedian Frank Skinner claiming that atheists are as big a threat to humanity as climate change deniers. Its actually fascinating … on the one hand he is indeed quite rational about climate change and accepts the evidence, but when it comes to supernatural claims, the complete lack of evidence does not appear to bother him one bit.

This claim was made during a 90 minute interview with the Archbishop of Canterbury last night. During this, the well-known Catholic comedian said:

‘Atheists we might see as people like those who deny global warming. You might defend their choice to believe that as freedom of speech – but if they are wrong and people are taken in, it could be disastrous for millions of people.’

The obvious come back to that is to observe that believing silly Catholic nonsense is an actual mortality threat to millions (no you cannot use a Condom even if it will protect you from AIDS, because God thinks it is evil). This has been an actual disaster for millions. As for the millions of folks who have devoted their entire lives to a delusion, I’d argue that to be a tragic waste as well.

He also went on to complain that on the comedy circuit, it’s incredibly cool to be an atheist. He was on a roll,  a few other gems he came out with included …

  • His reference to  … “the wisdom of believers“.
  • And … ‘It really gets on my nerves that atheists is all about sitting on leather chairs in gentlemen’s clubs with Dawkins and Bertrand Russell while I sit reading novels with Cliff Richard. I think we’re stuck with that.

It is oh so tempting to think he was being ironic and making a joke when he said all this, but no, this was a serious interview, he really thinks like this. In the end, if he wishes to embrace silly superstitious Catholic beliefs and truly believe in a supernatural entity, then best of luck to him. Personally, I’ll stick with reality, it is not only more rational, but is also more fun.

  1. He accepts the evidence for the existence of God but has allowed himself to be bamboozled into believing in the politically motivated environmentalist mumbo-jumbo of pseudo-scientists on government payrolls. Sad!

  2. Christians we might see as people like those who deny global warming. You might defend their choice to believe that as freedom of speech – but if they are wrong and people are taken in, it could be disastrous for millions of people. Everyone could be going around sinning, eating the flesh of cows and thinking Jesus forgives them, but really they’ll all be reincarnated as grubs!!

  3. A more obvious rebuttal imo would be to state that in the context of a religious reality, so is every single religious denomination that isn’t correct, which could be any religious view… ever, both past, present and future – Catholicism included.
